Best Practices for Updating Your Facebook Profile to Optimize Search

Best Practices for Updating Your Facebook Profile to Optimize Search

Optimize Your Facebook Bio

Your Facebook bio may be short, but it works hard. Your bio quickly shows customers what your restaurant is all about and help platforms highlight your page in local search results.

Clearly Describe Your Restaurant

Include your cuisine type, location, and a defining description

Facebook Bio Example:
Upscale Irish gastropub in Austin serving modern twists on traditional Irish dishes. Enjoy elevated cuisine, craft cocktails, and a warm, sophisticated dining experience at Murdoch’s Irish Gastropub.”

Notes
Your Facebook Bio has a limit of 101 characters, though some legacy pages or different sections might show up to 255 characters

Use Strong Restaurant-Specific Keywords

Examples include:

  • “Fresh seafood daily”, “Authentic ramen bowls”, “Craft margaritas”, “Slow-smoked BBQ plates”, “Homestyle comfort food”

These keywords help your restaurant appear in platform search and in suggested pages or accounts.

Add a Strong Call to Action (CTA)

CTAs guide customers to act immediately and can be implemented differently depending on the platform:

Try to avoid linking to third-party sites when possible. If those links already exist on your website, make sure your CTA buttons point back to your own domain to help drive traffic. For example, the “Start Order” action button can link to the online ordering page on your site if the ordering option is easy to find and clearly highlighted.

  • Action Button: Use Facebook’s action button for key actions, such as “Start Order,” or “Contact Us.” This is separate from the bio link and appears prominently at the top of your page.

Notes
If you don’t have online ordering, it’s still best to use the “Contact Us” action button that links to a contact page/form on your website.

  • Main Link in Bio: The single link in your bio should direct users to your website home page.

Brand-Level Page (Represents Multiple Locations)

Warning
Restaurants with a brand page representing multiple locations should not list an address or phone number in their Facebook or Instagram bio.
Instead:

  • Direct customers to your website’s locations page
  • Use wording like “Serving guests across Texas” or “Find your nearest location below”

This prevents location confusion and ensures customers reach the correct restaurant.
