Authnet Account Setup FAQ

Authnet Account Setup FAQ

What is a Payment Gateway?

A payment gateway is required in order to process Online Credit Card Payments.  The Payment Gateway is the online equivalent of a POS terminal.  It verifies credit card details and funding for 'Card Not Present' transactions.

Spillover Online Ordering currently integrates to two Payment Gateways :
1. Jupico : Jupico is an end-to-end online payment processing solution covering payment gateway, merchant account/acquirer, processor integration etc.  Jupico is a preferred partner of Spillover so we offer a high level of support and integration for Jupico.
2. Authnet : authnet is a payment-gateway only.  It needs to be integrated into an existing Merchant Service Provider (MSP) solution.

If you choose to add an Authnet Payment Gateway to your existing POS Merchant Service Provider (to process online payments), you will need to create an Authnet 'Payment Gateway Only' Account.

How do I create an Authnet (payment gateway only) Account?

An Authnet Partner Reseller (such as Spillover) can help with initial account setup. .  Your MSP may also be an Authnet Partner Reseller - you should first ask your MSP if they support Authnet AND if they are an Authnet Partner Reseller and can do initial Authnet account setup for you!  If your MSP is not an Authnet Partner Reseller then Spillover can assist with account creation (OR you can create an Authnet account directly on the Authorize.net website).

What info do I need from my Merchant Service Provider to create an Authnet Account?

The following info is required from your MSP in order to create an Authnet Account (info is normally provided via a VAR Sheet:):
  1. Merchant ID
  2. Terminal ID
  3. Processor

What are the Fees for an Authnet Account?

Fees vary based on whoever sets up your Authnet account.  If you set up via Spillover the following fees apply:

Authnet has a monthly fee of $12 and a per transaction fee of 5c. (Note this 5c is on top of your current Merchant Processing per transaction fee.)  There is also a 5c Daily Batch Fee.

What else do I need to do to activate and setup my Authnet account?

When your initial account is set up by your reseller (using the VAR Sheet Info), you will receive an Account Activation email and you will then step through the final account activation (adding Billing and Bank Info, Accept Ts&Cs, setup login) and post activation steps (generate API keys, switch from Test to Live).

Activation Steps if Your Account Was Set Up by a Partner (Reseller or ISO):
  1. Open the welcome email sent to your registered email address.
  2. Select the activation link in the email.
  3. Request a verification PIN. Enter the PIN and select Verify. (PIN is valid for 10 minutes; regenerate if needed.)
  4. Complete all required business information fields. Website URL is optional.
  5. Provide billing and bank details for monthly fees.
  6. Review and accept the Authorize.Net Services Agreement
  7. Create your Account Owner login by setting your Login ID and Password. Store credentials securely.

Alert
Post-Activation Steps:
Access the Merchant Interface at https://login.authorize.net using your credentials and complete the following steps:
  1. Generate API Credentials: You will need to generate their API Login ID and Transaction Key for your online ordering integration and provide this info to Spillover.
  2. Switch to Live: You must switch from "Test Mode" to "Live" in your Merchant Interface.
  3. Check/Set Batch Cutoff Time

Pros and Cons of Jupico and Authnet

Jupico
  1. Jupico is an all-in-one payment processing solution, so does not need to be integrated into your current MSP solution.
  2. Merchant needs to complete an online application (providing business and banking info).
  3. Jupico provides an API Key directly to Spillover Support to complete setup of Online Ordering Payments.
  4. Spillover Support has access to Jupico Merchant Portal for ongoing support.
  5. Jupico has no monthly Fees.  Transaction Fees are 2.9% + 30c.

Authnet
  1. Authnet is a payment-gateway only solution and needs to be integrated into your current MSP solution, therefore merchant needs to request a VAR sheet from MSP.
  2. Merchant needs to complete an online Authnet Account application / activation (providing Business + Banking info)
  3. Spillover does not have access to Authnet Merchant Account, so Merchant needs to complete the following steps to complete setup of Online Ordering Payments:
    1. Merchant must generate API keys inside their Authnet Merchant Account and provide these keys to Spillover
    2. Merchant must toggle Authnet from 'Test' mode to 'Live' mode inside their Authnet Merchant Account.
  4. Authnet charges $12 p.m. + 5c per transaction (this is on top of MSP CC processing fees) + 5c daily batch fee (this is on top of any MSP batch processing fee).
