Homepage Photo Guidelines
Your homepage is the first thing visitors see, so choosing the right photos makes a big difference. Spillover website templates are designed around wide, landscape images that look sharp across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Photo Requirements
- Single Image Homepage: Provide 1 high resolution landscape photo that is at least 2000 pixels wide.
- Homepage Slideshow: Provide 3 to 6 high resolution landscape photos, each at least 2000 pixels wide.
- Use the highest quality original photos available. Avoid screenshots or photos downloaded from social media whenever possible.
What Makes a Great Homepage Photo?
The best homepage images are bright, sharp, and professionally composed. They should immediately show customers what makes your restaurant unique.
- Landscape (horizontal) orientation.
- High resolution with clear detail.
- Well-lit with vibrant, natural colors.
- Food filling most of the frame without being overly zoomed in.
- Table spreads photographed from the side or directly above.
- Clean backgrounds with minimal distractions.
- Images that represent your signature dishes or overall dining experience.
Photos to Avoid
- Portrait (vertical) photos.
- Blurry or low resolution images.
- Dark or poorly lit photos.
- Photos with large empty areas that make the subject appear too small.
- Images with distracting backgrounds or clutter.
- Photos with heavy filters, graphics, or text over the image.

Portrait photos do not fit the wide homepage layout and are often heavily cropped, resulting in a poor appearance.

- Include a variety of photos if using a slideshow, such as signature dishes, appetizers, drinks, desserts, or your dining atmosphere.
- Keep lighting and editing consistent across all homepage photos for a polished, professional look.
- If possible, use professional photography to showcase your restaurant.
- Choose photos that best represent the experience customers can expect when visiting.
