Claiming, Verifying and updating your Google Business Listing
To allow us to connect Google to the Spillover platform, you’ll need to add Spillover as a manager on your Google Business Profile. Below are a few guides depending on your current access or status on the profile:
Check Ownership
Confirm whether you already have access:
If you are the owner, you’ll see “You manage this Business Profile”
If not, you’ll see options like “Claim this Business” or “Own this business”Create New Google Business Listing
If no Google Business Profile is set up for your business, you can start at:
- Click “Add your business to Google”
- Enter your business details (name, address, phone, etc)
- Complete verification via mail, email, phone, or video, depending on what Google provides (phone or email is easiest)

If Your Business is Claimed by Someone Else
If you don’t have access and the listing is owned by another account (email you cannot access), you can submit an access request through Google. If the request is not approved, you can then proceed with a re-verification to take over ownership of the Business Profile.
After requesting access:
- The current owner has 3–7 days to respond
- You can track status via Google Business or your confirmation email
- If approved, you’ll gain access to manage the profile and add users
If denied, Google will prompt you to reverify ownership, typically via phone or video verification.
Note: A successful re-verification of the Google Business Profile may remove existing users from the account and can also clear previously managed review responses tied to the old ownership.
Verification Methods
- Phone Verification
Google sends a code via text or automated call to your business number.
- Enter the code in your Google Business dashboard
- Instant verification once the code is confirmed
- Video Verification
You’ll record a short live video through Google showing proof of your business. Use your mobile phone to start the video verification, and Google will prompt you through the process. Here's a quick checklist for consideration:
- Record a minimum 30-second video (no cuts, one continuous take)
- Start outside the location — Show the street, address, and storefront clearly
- Capture business signage and logos
- Enter the location and show proof you manage the business — Access to POS, register, back office, or staff-only areas
- Do a quick walkthrough of the space
- Highlight key areas (dining room, service counter, kitchen, etc.)
- Make sure everything shown matches your business name and category
- Mail Verification
Google mails a postcard with a verification code to your business address.
- Delivery usually takes 5–14 days
- Enter the code once received in your dashboard
- Required for some locations or business type
